In my long years of professional orchestra and chamber music playing (in the viola world) I have had the opportunity to collaborate with all kinds of interesting musicians and to notice their idiosyncrasies and habits.  All of us have our own unique ways of playing our instruments, the way we hold them, how we treat them.  They are sometimes an extension of ourselves!

 

The choice of animals in “Zoo Orchestra” came from suggestions of my family when they realized I was painting after my retirement (never is too late).  In other cases the choice of animals is arbitrary, but I was always looking for or thinking about something that would make sense for the playing of a particular instrument, combined with the configuration of the animal.

 

I hope my colleagues will not be offended … it is nothing personal!
